Stop the Canada Goose Madness

I like a good trend as much as the next bro but the Canada Goose madness needs to stop. I’d been looking for a parka myself for the last few winters but just couldn’t justify the prices out there. When it comes to brands I’m all about form AND function. (I realize that that sounds ridiculous from a guys who drops two hunge on a pair of Jordans, but that’s another issue.) The first parka I bought was from Triple F.A.T Goose, which was a throwback to the 90’s. Of course I didn’t actually own one back then because there was no way my parents were going to spend hundreds of dollars on a coat for me. Same goes for Jordan’s tbh. I actually ended up returning it because the cut and fit was just not as narrow as I’d like, but it was still half the price of a Canada Goose.

We’re clearly at peak Canada Goose right now. The marketing that includes Kate Upton modeling one for SI in 2013 and Drake rocking one a few years ago is brilliant so it’s no wonder they’re on every basic up from NY to DC when the temperature falls below freezing. The thing is, there are so many other options out there for way less than $900. Can everyone really afford to drop half a month’s rent in DC (or a whole month for most of the country) on a shoulder patch? Please don’t tell me you need the real coyote fur or that their down fill is special.

Thankfully a buddy of mine tipped me off to a great alternative from Uniqlo. If you’re not hip, it’s a Japanese company with stores on the coasts and new ones popping-up all over. I got mine for $150 and it got me through a trip to Maine in late December. The collar is a little high and the cuffs elastic could be a little tighter but I’d say it was worth every penny. Maybe I’m wrong but unless you got Canada Goose money, don’t bother, and if you do, might as well shop at Moncler ;).
